michigan central station built in 1913 for the michigan central railroad, was detroit, michigans passenger rail depot from its opening in 1913 until the discontinuance of amtrak service on january 6, 1988. at the time of its construction, it was the tallest rail station in the world. the building, located in the corktown district of detroit still stands today, though it remains unoccupied. restoration projects and plans have gone as far as the negotiation process, but none have come to fruition. spread throughout the city of detroit and its surrounding metropolitan area, the decay of once magnificent buildings during the industrial revolution and automobile era now cast a shadow of despair on a once flourishing city. these monuments of achievement now lay barren and forsaken by city government. infrastructural restoration and city development are fundamental elements in detroits recovery, and the recovery of cities worldwide. it is time for revival in our cities, but first, in our souls. the michigan central station ep is a platform for this change.

it only takes one listen to jee days >like a child< – and its whirling, hypnotic rush – to recognize the know-how that has made studio whiz dennis dj mcnany a go-to source in new york citys dance music scene. over the last decade, the sound architect has become a musical jack-of-all-trades: fine tuning releases from outfits such as the rapture and turing machine, working on early output from dfa records, maintaining his own run roc label, remixing artists like panthers, ghostape and digable planets ladybug mecca, and contributing keyboards and percussion on tour with the juan maclean. in light of the already impossibly long list of credits to mcnanys name (including the numerous pseudonyms under which he has released his own music) the jee day debut 12 inch is a bit like a first listen to an artist who audiences, ironically, have already heard many times before.

when being into collecting records for more then 20-25 years there is not much left that can be considered the holy grail of house music... so we wont call this a holy grail. however for us its a track which was impossible to find because it was simply not released! only a hand full white labels on dj international have been floating around, but it never got a proper release. finally we managed to get the rights and more important a proper old recording of sterling voids instrumental version of serve it up. his first ever recording done in chicago, 1987!

first on decks.de !! lust und freude musik s fifth release arrives from tufan demir of istanbul, who has been making music in various genres under different monikers for some time now. this ep bears tufan s own name and contains tracks of a more personal nature. despite the overall after-hour feel of the toy harmonics, it also draws heavily from modern house music elements. four-to-the-floor pattern of the tracks do not necessarily mean that they are pure house as they encompass an undeniable ambient vein. most of the percussive elements featured here have been recorded by tufan, extracting sounds diligently from a toy archive that includes pieces ranging from action figures to music boxes. the opening number idiot term tricks you with its mighty kicks and hypnotic percussions only to draw you into a dreamy atmosphere made up of pads and intricate structuring. quiet days in a room starts off with a simple sequence and builds into a melodic orgy of bells and synth sounds. the most minimalist of all, back to fine offers the greatest emotional potential - despite its unmistakable dance footing, the track transcends electronic dance formulas thanks to its ingenious instrumentation.
